 When I announced my
campaign seeking the Republican nomination for Illinois Lieutenant
Governor in July 2009, I wrote:
“A few weeks ago, I sent a letter to friends and supporters indicating that ‘enough was enough’ with the mess our state government has become. The response to that call for action has been incredible and my resolve to be part of the solution has grown everyday.” Those words still hold true in my heart, “enough is enough” with the way our state’s good name has been destroyed by one-party Democrat control in Chicago and Springfield. Now, after the primary election is over, I am none-the-less committed to working with the Republican nominees for Governor and Lieutenant Governor to fight toward creating the real change we need in November 2010. Elections are often hard-fought and this one was no different, but we stayed true to our message that was focused on serious issues and dedicated to solving the real problems that Illinoisan’s are facing every day. This race was unpredictable and exciting at every step and turn. The race we finished is also not the race we started, with candidates falling-out and jumping-in and with millions of dollars spent by our opponents. As I look back on the primary election, I am proud to have been supported by so many individuals and organizations that gave of their time, efforts and resources to support my campaign. There are no better supporters than those who helped us in both large and small ways, and I will forever be grateful for them. Many of the faces and names blend together on the campaign trail, but the kind words and encouraging comments will always be part of what I remember most.
